Movie Monday (a day late)

Today's review is about the movie, "The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry".

This movie is wonderful!!! It is definitely a Christian movie with the main emphasis on sharing your faith with others. The first time I saw the trailer for the movie, I thought it would be good, but I was not super excited to watch it. Actually, when I started watching the movie I still was thinking it will be a good movie, but not a great one. The movie didn't grab my attention at the start, HOWEVER, after about 15 minutes (after some story build up) I was hooked and I basically cried (sobbed at the end) through this whole movie.... The good kind of cry. (No crying promised as I could have been extra hormonal :) To me the movie trailer doesn't really capture the heart of the film.

This is a wonderful movie to watch with your whole family...young children included. Issues such as bullying, sharing your faith, forgiveness, and the importance of studying your Bible are addressed in this movie. After watching this film, I thought how the world could be different if we had more people like Jonathan Sperry in it. FYI... Jonathan Sperry is played by "Captain" of the "Love Boat"... I just love him in this film.

The best part about this film is that you don't have to buy it, although you may want to. You can rent this movie at your local video store (I know it is at Family Video and Blockbuster for sure). So go rent or buy this movie today, and then come back and let me know how you liked (or loved) it.

Movie Monday

Today's Movie is "The River Within" and overall I think this movie is good. I first like it because it is a Christian movie, and the movie deals with many different issues that we face today. Like...
-Unrequited love and relationships

-Issues that teens face (I don't want to give the movie away)

-The Purpose of the Church (meaning Christians) I think this was my favorite part of the movie

-People who don't believe, but have questions

I didn't recognize any of the actors in this film, but overall the acting was pretty good. The movie also comes with a Bible Study guide that you could use after viewing the movie. Again, this movie would be good to watch with a group of people, and then talk about it using the guide that comes with the DVD.

I don't think this movie is available at regular video stores, but is available for purchase online and at some Christian bookstores. I don't know if this is true (because I didn't really check it out), but it appears that you can watch some of the movie on YouTube (check it out), although I don't suggest that would be the best way to watch the movie :)

Movie Monday

This week's movie review is about the Christian movie titled, "Overcome" (from Wisenquest). This is a family friendly film, and the main characters are teenagers in high school. The movie is a modern day tale, based on the conversion of Paul from the Bible (Saul/Paul). Click here to see a movie preview.

I definitely recommend this movie to watch and to buy if you can. You can purchase it at your local Christian bookstore (I have seen it at Family Video), or through CBD. Overall the acting is good, but there are some scenes where some of the acting is just OK, but those scenes do not detract from the overall message of the movie.

What I love about this movie is that when the main character, "Colton" has his conversion experience, he not only seeks to change and do what is right, he also seeks ways to make amends to the ones he wronged along the way. I don't have teenagers myself (although I am getting close to that experience), but I think this movie could be used as a tool to start some really good conversations with your teens.

Movie Monday

Movie Monday on a Saturday (Letters To God)

(I think I used the word "movie" a million times in this post...it is late)

OK, I can't wait to Monday to tell you about this movie... I normally review DVDs, but this movie actually is at the theaters now. The movie, "Letters to God" opened Friday. This movie is from one of the producers of "Facing the Giants" and "Fireproof", and it is fabulous!!!!

If you are a Christian you will want to see this movie. The message of God and Jesus is all over this movie. Really I think anyone would enjoy this movie... BUT BE WARNED... You will need your tissues... I cried almost through the entire movie. Letters to God is based on a true story which just make the story even more awesome...

The acting is great, and the message of the movie is full of love and hope. If you like the trailer to the movie, you will love the movie because it is like 100 times better than what the trailer showed. There is something really special at the end of the movie too, so if you go make sure to not run out right after the movie is done.

One sad thing to me is that the theater I saw the movie in today was basically empty...So please go out and support this movie...selling tickets is what helps to keep the movie showing, and I believe this movie will encourage many, and may even lead some to want to know God and His Son.

Movie Monday

Me & You, Us, Forever (Rating: 3 "Rent it" although I don't think you can presently :)


This movie is a Dave Christiano film. Over the years, Dave Christiano has made many Christian films. This movie is based on some of his own life experiences, and it deals with "first love" and divorce.


The acting is good in this movie, and I think Christiano does a really good job showing the effects of divorce on the individuals living through it. After the main character's (Michael Blain-Rozgay) wife leaves him he begins to reminisce about his first love and he becomes consumed with the "what ifs". I won't share specifically what happens next, but I will say that personally I don't agree with what the main character does in the story because I think his action could cause more damage than good. Although, I wouldn't feel comfortable saying that someone in his position should never do what he did, but I would want to make sure the Lord was leading me to do what he did.



I don't believe you can rent this movie at your local video store, but I have seen the movie on the TBN (Trinity Broadcast Network). The movie may come on again in the future, but the best way to see the movie would be to buy it online or at your local Christian Bookstore. I think this movie would be a good one for a group of ladies (I think women would enjoy this movie more than men) to watch and then have a discussion.

Movie Monday

Rating: Between 2 (Buy It) and 3 (Rent It) "No Greater Love"

What I like most about this movie is that it talks directly about Jesus. Many movies will mention God, but rarely do movies mention Jesus. Even though I didn't rate it as one to share, I think it is a movie you could buy/rent, and watch with a Small Group. Afterwards, you and your group could have a really good discussion on what it means to truly forgive and show selfless love.

The premise of the story is about childhood sweethearts (non-believers) that get married and have a baby, and then the wife leaves (will leave that info out). 10 years later the wife returns, but now she has become a Christian. The rest of the movie follows the couple as they try to reconcile, but challenges arise as the husband has not become a Christian. I don't like to give too much information about the movie so that you can be surprised when you watch it.

The acting in the movie was pretty good. There is a scene in the movie where the pastor of the church gives the husband counsel about divorce and marriage between believers and non believers. I think most Christians would agree with his counsel, but I suspect some may not fully understand or agree with the pastor's counsel.

Overall, the movie shows a beautiful example of forgiveness and what it means to truly love. This movie can be rented at your local video store or Redbox. If you watch it please come back and tell me how you liked it.

Rating: 1-Buy it and Share it

This movie came out last year. I purchased it from Family Christian bookstores, although I do believe it can be rented at any normal video store, and maybe even Redbox. The film is based on the true life story of Angus Buchan. This movie is very inspirational... The beginning of the movie is a little slow, but stick with it. About 45 minutes into the story we see the conversion of Angus as he becomes a Christian. Angus truly becomes a new creation before your eyes. The faith of Angus Buchan will inspire you to love Jesus more. I will stop here and say that I can see that within the Christian community people may not agree with everything in the film, but you cannot deny what God did in the life of the Buchan family. Miracle after miracle...Please make sure to watch the real life documentary of Angus Buchan that is in the special feature section of this DVD. You will see that much of what took place in the movie really did happen in the life of Buchan family. There is one scene that is heart-wrenching to watch, but you will get to see a little bit of how God began the healing in the Buchan family after the deep tragedy. It is beautiful, and shows how much God loves his children.This film encouraged me in my faith, and challenged me to want to have more faith...go deeper in my faith walk. Movie Monday Review (Faith and Family Edition)

I am starting something new at my bloggy on Mondays... I am calling it "Movie Monday Review", but my focus will always be on movies that either deal directly with the Christian faith (my favorites) or a moral/family friendly film. I own most of the movies I will review, as you will be able to tell by my top quality photos of my DVDS :)

I am not a professional movie reviewer, but I am a self proclaimed expert (in my own eyes) as I have watched movies (and way too many movies) for over 30 years. Actually, I am a former movie/TV addict...God has been working in this area of my life for years now, and I am so thankful. However, I have felt freedom to seek out and view Christian entertainment (good quality Christian entertainment) over the last several years. If the movie is not Christian based, I try to choose a family friendly film with strong values.

Christian movie making has become more popular over the last several years with help from movies like "Facing the Giants" and "Fireproof". However, Christian film making has been going on for years... I have watched some really old Christian movies. Most of them have a good message, but the message can get lost with the lack of budgets these filmmakers have had... I can look over some "cheesiness" and bad acting if the message is strong and true. OK, all that to say some of the movies I review may not use blockbuster film making techniques and may have actors that you have never seen or heard about, but that doesn't mean that the movie isn't good or shouldn't be watched. So I encourage you to take a chance and see the movies I review :)

Review for "Sarah's Choice" Rating: (1) Buy it and Share it

This movie features Rebecca St. James (popular Christian music artist) as Sarah. Sarah is not a Christian and she becomes pregnant. The rest of the movie deals with Sarah wrestling with her choice of whether or not to have the baby or to have an abortion. The movie takes you on a journey with "Sarah" as she wrestles with her choice, and also how she wrestles with questions about God and faith as well. I don't want to really share anymore details of the movie because if you watch it I don't want you to know everything that happens :)

The acting in this movie is pretty good... I like Rebecca St. James in this role, and you will also notice an appearance from Charlene Tilton (from Dallas), and Dick Van Patten too. I think as Christians we could use this film to start some good thought provoking conversations about abortion and the many things that go along with this issue.
