Book Review: She Reads Truth

I recently received a complimentary book, "She Reads Truth" from B&H Publishers, and in turn I agreed to write this review.  "She Reads Truth" is written by Raechel Myers and Amanda Bible Williams the cofounder/CCO of She Reads Truth (SHEREADSTRUTH.COM).

She Reads Truth is unique as it tells the stories of Raechel and Amanda, who have very different stories, but have one thing in common; God and His Word.   One thing that both women kept emphasizing was the TRUTH of God's Word, and how it applies to their lives.  I loved that both authors quoted Scripture and interpreted it from God's point of Truth and not their version of what the truth is.

The book started out a little slow for me, but a few chapters into the book, I was all in.  I loved how both women were completely honest and real, and let the readers into very private and sacred places of their lives.  For me, I could totally relate to certain aspects of both of their stories.  I held tears back a few times when I was reading the descriptions of what they were thinking and feeling.
I too love the back and forth story telling in the book.  I think all women that read this book will be able to relate in some way to one or both of Raechel and Amanda's lives.

The most important part of the book is how they share what they have learned about God through their reading and studying of Scripture.  It was God's Truth that saved and changed their lives in small and dramatic ways.  After reading the book, it just confirmed what I have already known in my head for years.  God's Word and His Truth is the true foundation for my walk of faith.

I highly recommend this book for all women.  Thank you B&H Publishing for sharing this resource with me.

Review: NKJV Study Bible

Book Look Bloggers sent me a complimentary copy of the NKJV  (New King James Version) Study Bible (Signature Series) and I in turn agreed to review it.

First of all, I think this bible is beautiful.  I absolutely love the colors! The two tone, blue and turquoise colors look so great together.  The pages are lined in silver and make this bible look very expensive.  The picture above doesn't do it justice.

My favorite feature of this bible is the study notes.  There are over 15,000, verse by verse notes included.  When I am wanting to go deeper and learn more about the content and context of the bible, I prefer a study bible.  I am used to reading my NIV (New International Version) version, so I was excited to add the NKJV to my collection.  When I do my personal bible study and readings, I like to compare the different versions of the bible.

Some of the features included in this bible are Word studies with Strong's numbers, In-texts maps and charts, book introductions, timelines, outlines, Thomas Nelson's complete cross reference system, and many more.  One of the features of this bible is a chart that list the prophecies of Messiah that are fulfilled in Jesus Christ.  I love when you are able to tie the Old and New Testament together.  Sharing prophetic fulfillment is a powerful tool one can share with those that don't know about Jesus, and it will strengthen the faith of those that do know Jesus as Savior.

I highly recommend this bible to anyone that is wanting a NKJV. On the cover, it is labeled as the most comprehensive study bible available, and I totally agree!  This bible is so beautiful and has so many helpful features to study the bible with that I may have to gift it to someone.  Thank you Book Look Bloggers!

Review: Redeemed Bible Study

I was given the opportunity to review Angela Thomas-Pharr's newest bible study, "Redeemed".  I received a complimentary copy of the study from B&H Publishers and in turn agreed to write this review.  "Redeemed (Grace to Live Every Day Better Than Before)" is a good study, and I highly recommend it to any woman that wants to lead or complete a bible study.

"Redeemed" is a 7 session bible study that includes video sessions to view.  The video sessions are optional, but I strongly recommend that you purchase and watch the teaching sessions by Angela.   I have always gleaned so much when I add the video sessions as part of my study.

You will fall in love with Angela and her down to earth writing/teaching style.  I love how she is able to take a subject and explain it in terms that I can understand.  One of my favorite things is when a bible study teacher opens up and shares experiences from her own life and walk with Jesus, and Angela does this very thing.

Angela added a special element to this study that I think people will love.  She challenges those that take the study to do a 40 day prayer challenge.  She explains and helps direct you on how to go about the 40 days of prayer.  I think the prayer challenge will add exponentially to the effectiveness and learning that will come from this study.

This study is perfect for those that are new to the faith. It will also reinforce God's redeeming power to those that have walked with God for decades.  As stated before, I recommend this study for all women (and any men that might want to take it :)

Blessings!

Movie Review: "Greater"

Today, I am writing a review for the movie, "Greater".  Greater is based on the true life story of Brandon Burlsworth who is perhaps the greatest walk-on in college football history.  Grace Hill Media provided me with a pre-screening copy to view and review.  The movie opens in theaters on Friday.

If you know me, I am not a sports person at all, but I am a sucker for a "great" sports movie.  Greater did not disappoint, it was a wonderful movie!  I laughed, I cried, and cried and cried :)
One of the things I liked about this movie is how it dealt with so many life issues.

-Bullying
-Overcoming obstacles
-Sports
-Youth and mentor relationships
-Family ties
-Friendship
-Alcoholism
-Faith
-Loss
-Why bad things happen
-Doubting your Faith

I cannot say enough good things about this movie.  The acting was well done, and the film itself is family friendly.  This truly is a movie for the whole family to watch together.  For parents trying to decide if their children should watch, there are a few words of profanity (light), but not anything compared to many of the movies out there today.

I won't give away too much more of the movie, but as a mother of 3 sons, I would be proud if my sons are anything like Brandon Burlsworth.  He truly was a role model for all to follow.  He was a young man of Faith, and God used him to touch so many lives.  I was encouraged in my Faith as well.

Go see the movie this weekend!  You will not be disappointed either...

Book Review: The Prince Warriors

I was so excited to receive my latest book to review, "The Prince Warriors",  written by one of my favorite bible study speakers, Priscilla Shirer.  Priscilla is a gifted author, and I loved that she was branching out to write a fiction book.  "The Prince Warriors" is the first book in a epic new trilogy written for a Juvenile audience, but can be enjoyed any age group.

The book centers around four children that take a trip to another realm known as Ahoratos.
Ahoratos is the spiritual realm that parallels the children's lives on earth.  As quoted from the story, "Earth is but a shadow of the unseen realm. This is the real world where the battles rage, where your true enemy lies."  It is a place of adventure, but also one of great danger.   There are twists and turns around every corner, and nothing is at is seems.

The children are guided by a mysterious creature named, Ruwach.  He will help to equip and challenge them to always follow the way of Truth.  Following their hearts and desires will get them into a lot of danger in the land of Ahoratos.  Ruwach will help to show them that they were created and equipped to be Warriors.

One of the reasons I love this book is that it parallels the Bible.  In the book of Ephesians there is a chapter that talks about the "Armor of God", and how as Jesus followers we battle an enemy. He is an enemy we cannot see, but is real and evil nonetheless.  This is a book of fiction, but many of the principles about our unseen battle hold true.

I think children and youth will like this action-packed book...they will not be bored!  This book will give parents an opportunity to open discussions about the truth of the Bible as it pertains to our battle with our unseen enemy.  Obviously, I am writing from a Christian viewpoint, but I think this book can be enjoyed by all.

I received this complimentary book from B&H Publishing, and in turn am writing this review.  Thank you B&H Publishing.

How to Live in Fear BookLook Blogger Review

I jumped at the chance to get my latest book for review, How to Live in Fear by Lance Hahn.  Why you ask?  I know you really didn't ask why, but I shall tell you anyway.  Fear has been something I have struggled with since I was a child.  My early memories are often ones of fear and worrisome, anxious thinking.  So, the title about how to live in fear got my attention right away.

How to Live in Fear was written by Lance Hahn, the senior pastor of Bridgeway Christian Church in Roseville, California.  Lance also struggled with a severe anxiety disorder during his childhood, and he continues to battle the disorder today.  Lance's goal in writing this book is to let those that suffer with fear and anxiety know they are not alone in this battle.  He offers hope that with God people can overcome and deal with their fear and anxiety.  He offers practical insights and concrete methods to fight fear and anxiety.  Lance can offer hope because he has been in the fight and come out on the other side.

As I read this book, I felt like Lance had insight into my soul and the way I think.  Many people do not understand  how crippling fear can be, but Lance does because he lived it...he lives it.  He shares many personal stories about his anxiety and how he works through it.  As a Christian woman, I appreciate the many examples of how God helped him through his battle with fear.

To keep this review short, I will wrap up by saying this is one of the best books I have read about fear and anxiety.  I highly recommend this book to those that deal with fear, and to those that know someone who is dealing with fear.  It is a quick and easy read because you will not want to put it down.

I received this book from BookLook Bloggers, and in turn agreed to write this review.  Thank you BookLook Bloggers!

BookLook Bloggers Review: The Comeback

My latest review is of the book, The Comeback by Louie Giglio.  I received this book complimentary from BookLook Bloggers, and in turn am writing this review.

First of all, I was drawn to the book because Louie wrote it.  I have come to really like Louie Giglio after watching him preach at the Passion conferences. I too heard him on a TV program, and he was being interviewed about this book, The Comeback.  He shared a story about his struggle with anxiety for a season in his life, and I wanted to read more about it in his book.  Louie does share about his season of suffering from anxiety and panic in his book, but The Comeback is about so much more.

On the back cover of the book, it reads, "God is the God of the Comeback, and God is creating a Comeback especially for you".  Louie shares how God offers everyone a chance for a "Comeback" no matter how many mistakes he/she has made.  I think in today's culture that is a message that people are dying to hear.

Louie's book is a combination of personal testimonies (his included) and examples of biblical characters that have had a "Comeback".  Some of his examples from the bible included the stories of Joseph, Peter, Lazarus, Mary and Martha.  Louie writes in such a way that helps the reader to understand the details of how these biblical characters had failures and disappointments, but God offered them a chance to have a Comeback.  You will be encouraged in your own life that God can offer you a chance to comeback after you have failed.

This book is an easy read and is loaded with helpful, biblical insight.  I think anyone would benefit from reading this book as it was a very encouraging read.  Thank you BookLook Bloggers for giving me this book.
