Hey all, for the next two weeks I will be on vacation. I will not be officially doing the weigh-ins the way I normally do. My goal for the next two weeks is to not do the "overeating vacation thing". It is hard, because of how many times we actually have to go out to eat. I don't want to come home and face the fact that I have an extra 5-8 pounds that I have to lose in addition to what I already need to lose. I NEED TO PRAY...
Hope you all are doing great on your journeys... See you at the Scales again very soon...

So close...
I finally found Gingy... He was in the kids' entertainment center. I don't know why I didn't think of that before :) Also, in the last two days, I have added to the collection. I found Shrek's true love at the McDonald's on the East side of town. Shrek's baby boy, now has a twin sister... but there is a third boy out there needed to complete the family. After that, I only need Dronkey to complete the set of ten :)... Dronkey is Donkey and Dragon's baby... just in case you are not up on your Shrek trivia.
OK, I will stop, but I had to get this post out before I left for vacation. So next time your spouse, friend, or family member says that you are crazy or obsessive... Just direct them to my blog, and show them these posts, and they will think you are not that bad :) Hey, if my insanity can make you look better, I am all for it. Blessings, Kim
FYI: You know that while we are driving to Florida, we will be making some McD's Stops... "May I have your order, please".... (ME) Yes, Dronkey and the Standing Baby Boy Please.. hold the Happy Meal.
It Might Be Quiet For Awhile...
Hey Blog readers... I am going on vacation. We leave tomorrow. So, I won't be posting many entries while I am away... Or, at least I think so. I may have access to a computer, and if I do, I will have to go to my blog, and then post something :) My vacation may inspire me to write all kinds of posts. So, if it is quiet, I will be back in town around June 13th or 14th.
I don't believe, I will be posting my"May Day" results for the next two to three weigh ins. Although, I know vacation is not an excuse to go crazy... it is just not realistic that I will be able to focus in on eating and exercising like I could when I am at home. I do believe in the future, once I really find some freedom in this "Food Area" that it won't matter if I am on vacation or not. But, I am going to pray for God to help me not get out of control while I am on vacation. Plus, I told my friend that we could go walking together for exercise.
God Bless, and enjoy the beginning of your summers...

My Obsession
Sadly, I don't think I am going to be able to complete either of the collections. The Shrek collection has 10 toys, and the Spiderman collection has about that many... My McD's said they have already run out of Fiona... What is Shrek, without his true love? And, I found out about the Spidey toys a bit to late, so I already missed some of the toys.
OK, here is the obsessive part about these toys. I MUST GET THE WHOLE COLLECTION, OR I FEEL ALL MESSED INSIDE :) I want the COMPLETE collection. Now here is where I could probably make a spiritual lesson, but I won't today. There is just something inside me that longs to have the collections complete... What is that about? Or maybe, I am just selfish, and I want it all :) Feel Free to comment.
This toy collection thing drives my hubby batty. About 2 years ago, at Christmas time, I bought almost the entire collection of BK Star War toys (about 20) I found out they just sell the toys without the Kid's meals (99 cents- can't beat that). But, I have to say my kids have played with those toys more than the expensive ones I bought at the store. "Snake" was messing with them today.
Two days ago, I bought 3 toys in one day... I visit different restaurants in the city... that increases my chances of getting different toys... My husband called me on it, and said that is a good way to waste money. I told him, I would go without my specialty coffees in order to get my kids the toys.. He told me that he would remind me of that...
I then reminded him that he knew about this crazy obsession of mine. I reminded him of a time when we were first married (Our 13 ann. is this Month). We were traveling by car on vacation. I had been collecting the "Pocahontas" toys... I was saving them for the baby girl that I would one day have (I have 3 boys :). I was looking for the Meeko toy to complete my collection. We must have stopped at a million (exaggerated to prove a point) Burger Kings to ask about Meeko. We had no luck, but it was funny... Every time my hubby saw a BK... he winced. Later, I think I found Meeko at a Goodwill, or some store like that... The "Pocahontas" collection is long gone, but I believe Meeko is in my memory box.
I guess somethings never change, even if they need to :)

May Day Challenge Week 3
Starting Weight- 180.8
Current Weight- 181.6
Losses/Gains - + .08 pounds
OK, second week no weight loss, a slight gain. I have not gained an official pound yet. Last week, if you read my post I realized some very important things... Again, I think that is what I did this week. I just wish realization burned a lot more calories :)
I didn't have a perfect week, but overall, I would say it was good. If you really want to check into my emotional well being this past week. Please take time to read the 3 posts before this one about my bathing suit excursions.
Again, I talked about this last week... I am a bit baffled about why I can't lose the weight. My biggest guess is that my body's metabolism has really changed, and I am going to have to work really hard at it... Which means limiting my calories. At present, I have just been eating better, and controlling portions. I thought that would be enough, but maybe not for now.
I have been working out like 5 times a week. I think I could be building muscle (THIS IS NOT AN EXCUSE:). I got my measurements taken at Curves about 2 weeks ago. In about 2-3 weeks, I will get remeasured. If I find out, I am at least going down in measurements... that will make me happy too.
I don't know if I will be keeping up with the reporting part of this challenge for the next 2-3 weeks. I will be going on Vacation. This could pose a very big problem, if I let it. I will be coming up with some kind of plan of how I will survive the dreaded "Vacation Weight Gain". When I come back, I am really going to attack this challenge from all angles possible.
Even though, I had a good week overall, I still lacked in giving control of this food thing to God. That is the key for me, so that is what I will be working on for the rest of this week, and I will definitely need to give God control on my vacation.
I also will limit my calories this week, and continue to work out at Curves.
I hope all of you taking this challenge are doing wonderfully... Even if you are not losing weight, but learning about your struggles... that counts for something!!!

All Is Well With The World Again...
If you have been reading my past few posts, you may think I was going to turn this blog into a "Weight Loss" blog, but rest assured, this blog will continue on as before (referencing all areas of life). But, if you have read my past couple of posts... you will know why I have been addressing the weight thing.
I FOUND A BATHING SUIT TODAY :) :) :) I even think I look kind of cute in it. A tip, if you are bathing suit shopping... try different suits on... even if you think you may not like a certain style. I almost passed on this suit. I was definitely looking for a suit that had a skirt bottom, but I was looking at the tank style top, and the skirt bottom (separates). However, a one piece bathing suit (looks like a dress) caught my eye. I first thought, it looks to old for me, but I was so wrong. The suit I bought actually flatters my body. Do not even think I will be posting a picture of me in the Suit. Letting you know my weight and pant size is about as far as I will go :)
FYI: I got the suit at JCPenneys... the suit was normally $68, but I got it for $32. Great Deal :)
Well, tomorrow is weigh in day, but I still don't think I have lost any... I have done better this week though. See you at the Scales tomorrow...

Weight Loss and the Mall
OK, first of all, I want to tell you the diet (see previous post) I created yesterday doesn't work. It actually can have the reverse effect. Today, I continued on with my "Bathing Suit/White Pants Diet"... By the end of the day, instead of not wanting to eat, I grabbed some chocolate at the checkout line. Don't think to badly of me... I bought the Dark Chocolate... It is better for your heart. (Disclaimer: I am totally kidding about the Diet, I am sure you figured that out :)
I am going to Florida soon, and we are going to be staying at the beach...that is why I have been bathing suit shopping... Otherwise, a bathing suit is way down on my list of things I need to purchase. So, I decided to go to the Mall.
First of all, the Mall isn't really shopper friendly when you are a size 16 (Well, I have already spilled my weight, why not my size). Yes, our mall has one store dedicated to WOMEN'S sizes (E.B.), but even that store doesn't work for me. I can wear the pants/shorts/skirts from their store, but the shirts swim on me. I am PEAR shaped. You know, bigger on the bottom, smaller on top. Most of the stores in our Mall don't even carry my size. OK, I am not really bashing the Mall... Really... I don't really shop there for clothes anyway (Except for the kids... Children's Place Rules). I just find the clothes, at the Mall, to be way to expensive. I shop at the bigger stores out there, and find really good bargains ( Gordmans :)
I say all of this because I realized something. I felt depressed when I was at the Mall today. I couldn't find anything that looked good on me, and the really cute clothes that were out there were not in my size.
When I had lost 30 pounds over a year ago, I remember going to the Mall, and feeling Fabulous. I went into stores that I had not been in- in years. All of the cute styles fit me, and I just felt happy.
At present, I am not happy with my weight, and I am really trying to work on losing the weight with God's help (some days are better than others). I just don't want to always be talking about my struggle with weight. I would like to be free of this struggle. I think my weight may be something I struggle with my whole life, but I know in God's Word He says that His Grace is sufficient. I just need to learn to trust in His Sufficiency.
I realize today that my self esteem and the way I feel about myself is still very much tied up in what size pants I can get into... Or, in the Stores at the Mall, that I may enter, and not feel like the employees of the store are wondering why I am there.
This journey is such a process. I will be going on Vacation soon, and I know that is going to be very challenging. I will need to prepare myself ahead of time. PRAYER...
Although, this post may sound very serious in tone, I am really laughing at myself too. This journey is both heart- wrenching, and gut-side splitting (that means you are laughing really hard-maybe I used the wrong analogy).
I still have not found a bathing suit... so I may have more to say about this subject later...
So, until next time...

Latest Diet...
Hey All,
I just invented a new diet... It is called "The Trying on Bathing Suits and White Pants Diet"... After doing that today, I decided I am not eating anything else until next week... Or, I will just use my Jack Lalanne Juicer all week long. No chewing required :)
I hope you smiled... You gotta laugh at yourself sometimes, especially when dieting :)
Blessings, Kim

Some Thoughts...
I was thinking about something... Most of the people who visit this site know me, but because of the different websites I am linked to, I know people I don't know from all over the US (and Beyond) visit my blog too. I, to like to visit many blogs of people I do not know.
I assume most people who visit this site probably realize that I am a Christian woman (I am linked to a few Christian women sites)... If not, it will not take you a long time to figure that piece of information out.
I just want any of you who visit to know, that you can feel free to ask me any questions you wish about my beliefs, and why I believe the way I do. Please feel free to comment... if you want me to respond, I will.
God Bless, Kim

Thursday Thirteen

(Header is from Goofy Girl Designs)
(I didn't have time to come up with a new "13" list... so I asked my husband to help. Last night, our Small Group had a discussion on marriage, and the differences between men and women... so that conversation led to this post)
13 THINGS MY HUSBAND DOESN'T UNDERSTAND ABOUT WOMEN (or at least me :)
1. Why women are so sensitive? (I don't know if I will be able to resist commenting on this list)
2. How do women talk so much when they are in a group?
3. Why they don't desire physical intimacy (he wrote a different word :) more?
4. How come they need so much toilet paper?
5. Why they need so many grooming products? (Grooming products.... how about beauty products?)
6.What's so great about Chocolate? (I can't believe he doesn't know)
7. Why can't we (he is really saying, me) make up our mind where to go on a date or vacation?
8. Why don't we love football?
9. Why we need "all the details"? (I drive him crazy with this one)
10. Why we can't be more direct? Men don't always know what we are thinking (Really???)
11. Why we (again, another me) don't understand that their idea of romance, MEANS NO KIDS?
12. Understanding that we are not criticising, but taking care of the home shows us respect for what we work for...
13. How we can watch the "Hallmark Channel"?
Thank you so much Hubby... Although, he doesn't speak for all men, I am sure that several of his "13" ring true with other men. We have come so far in our marriage, that I can actually post all of these things without wanting to strangle him :) All Praise to Jesus for that one :)

May Day Weight Loss Challenge-Week 2 (M ay 15th)
FYI: I wrote this entry on Monday, but will officially weigh myself on Tuesday and then post my results. I am going to go ahead and post it now, and then update the weight tomorrow...
Starting Weight- 180.8
Current Weight-181
Gains/Losses- + .2
OK, even though I have not officially weighed myself, I am pretty sure that I will have no weight loss to report, and possibly a gain. Knowing that fact, I debated about reporting my results on the "Tales from the Scales" website. But then, I stopped myself, and thought.. that is exactly why I joined this challenge... for the accountability. Further more, I realized that I was again focusing in on the amount of weight lost to measure my success on this journey. Remember, in my earlier post.. I said that the weight loss was not the main issue, it was giving control of this area (FOOD) to God. What I realized today, is that I didn't believe what I said... So this week, I am working on believing that...
Actually, this week was really positive... even without a big weight loss.. I learned some things.
You see, I normally lose weight so easily. I don't even have to be strict with my eating and exercising, and I will still lose. I told a friend that it was so strange that I am having trouble losing weight. I am not really going overboard with eating (at least like I used to), and I am exercising regularly...so I should be losing weight (according to my past experiences).
I had this thought... I wonder if the Lord is at work here.. it maybe all that yo-yo dieting I have done that is stopping me from losing weight, or my metabolism could be slowing down as I age. But, I wonder if this might be a gift from the Lord... I know me, and if I started losing weight real easily... I would focus on the program I was doing, or I would muster up all the will power I have in me, and lose the weight. But then, I would not fix the real problem, and that is my addiction to Food, and how I want to control this area. So, when I don't lose weight, that makes me turn to God, and ask Him for His guidance. I think by the time this is over, I will have true freedom in this area... God is with me for the long haul... He wants me to get to the heart of this matter... not just find a temporary fix. Thank You Lord for not giving up on me :)
OK, I could really go on and on about what I said above. I will save it for the coming weeks as this journey unfolds.
Here is how this last week went. (From the Goals I set last Week)
- I really did stay away from sweets for the most part (Mothers Day I had some ice-cream with my Rhubarb crunch)... I remember one time I wanted some candy, and I prayed, and the urge passed.
-I think I juiced almost everyday. The days I didn't, I think it was because I was gone most of the day. My kids love the juicer too. They are begging me for their veggies :)
-I worked out at Curves 4 times last week :)
OK, where I did not do so well, but I learned from it.
Last week, I said that I was going to pray and ask God for help with the food thing, but what I realized is that I only asked Him for help (and not that much) in the areas listed above, which left to much open. I only gave Him control over what I thought I could not handle, and I decided that I would take control of the rest.
PASTA.... Oh, my downfall... I was eating Elbow macaroni, and Lentils (HEALTHY, RIGHT).. Well, eating one bowl of Lentils and pasta was good, but 3 bowls... I couldn't stop myself... Pasta makes you crave more Pasta. But, because I didn't decide to give God control over my portions ahead of time... I left myself open for temptation, and I caved :)
Again, I learned something... I have to give God control of all areas of this food addiction... the areas I cannot handle, and even the areas I think I can handle. Partial control is not going to cut it for me. It has to be all or nothing.
So, my number one goal for this week is to give God control of every area that has to do with food. I need to be in prayer a lot more during the week about my food choices.. not just when temptation arrives.
So, all in all, a good week...even though the Scales might not say so :)
Blessings to all of you on your journeys... Kim

THURSDAY THIRTEEN

13 Things that you might not know about me, and might not want to know :) (13 Design Header by Goofy Girl Designs)
1. I love QVC. I could sit and watch it all day long, even if I don't buy a thing. The Hosts of QVC are my friends... (in my head, at least)
2. I love to wear my Toni Brattin hair pieces/extensions (I got them from HSN). I think I have at least 6 of them.
3. I love to obsessively twist my hair (my bangs mostly)... so much so, that it usually ends up in knots.
4. Beth Moore is my favorite Bible Study teacher. She is my mentor, even though we have never met (I know a lot of women feel this way too).
5. I used to sing solos when I was a kid (mostly at Church)... But, when I was a teen I had to sing a solo, and I was horrible.. I was so nervous... After that, my solo career kind of ended. The fact that my voice kind of went south on me didn't help either.
6. I love Splenda (I can use 5 packets in one glass of Tea). Although, I am trying to break the artificial sweetener habit.
7. I love to end my sentences with ... If you have read any of my postings, you know that already...
8. If not careful, I will need to go to a Blogger Addiction Program :)
9. I am very competitive... mostly in games with my husband.
10. I was born in Florida... So I am a FLORIDA NATIVE... A lot of people find that interesting, because they feel like Florida is a melting pot.
11. I have a degree in Elementary Education, although it has never been officially used. I got pregnant with my first baby... so I became a SAHM.
12. I am a selective, obsessive Germ-a-phobe.
13. I don't know why number 13 is underlined... and, I actually wrote my Thursday 13 on a Wednesday night, but I won't publish it until Thursday... so ignore the date... Also, this is my first "13", so I hope I did it right.
*If you click on links below, I don't really know much about where you will get linked to... The links came because I wanted to use the "13" header above... *

"May Day Weight Loss Challenge"
If you are looking for posts about the "May Day" challenge, scroll down a little to see my posts. I have been visiting others websites that are taking the challenge too.. I have not learned how to link to a specific post of mine yet ... I only know how to link to my blog address. So, if you are looking for info about my weight loss journey, check out my posts in May. I will be working on how to link back to specific posts... I am sure I can figure it out.
Update: the first day has been a little challenging at Lunch time... I will keep praying.. that is what will get me through the temptations.

May Day Challenge (Start date-May 8th)
OK, I decided to post my starting weight. It is only a number, and I know that this number doesn't define me :)
Plus, I tend to want to get down to the weight I weighed when I got married (which is about 15-20 pounds less than my goal weight), but I have found that my body is a lot different since I have had 3 kids (& 2 C-Sections). My body fights against me when I try to attain the weight of my younger years.
Starting Weight- 180.8
Goal Weight-150 pounds
Total Weight to Lose- 30.8 pounds
About two weeks ago, I weighed 186... so that is a positive thing... I have already started to lose.
This week I will be working out at least 3 times at my local "CURVES" facility. I will talk about "CURVES" on later posts.
This week I do not want to eat any sweets (candy, cake, and especially chocolate). I have very little control when it comes to sweets.
I also want to make sure to use my juicer once a day, if not twice a day. That is an easy way to get my fruits and veggies in. The "Jack Lalanne" Juicer rocks.
Most importantly, and the reason I signed up for this challenge is that I am committing to let Jesus help me with my food addiction. Which will mostly consist of a lot of praying when temptation comes my way. Recently, I have been trying to be consistent with reading my Bible. So, I know that God's Word will help me on my journey.
I will keep you posted, and I send out a big word of encouragement (GO GIRLS!!!) to all on their weight loss journeys (that word of encouragement is for the men to :)
See you at the "Scales"... Kim (the publish date says May 7th, but that is when I wrote it.. I actually weighed myself on the 8th)

Future Authors in my Family?

Above you see two stories written in a Speech Class. One belongs to "Moose" (the oldest), and the other belongs to "Snake" (middle-changed name from Soccer Kid)..."Moose" is in Speech mainly because of the issues that relate to his Autism, and "Snake" is in Speech just because he had a small delay.
I love to write myself... I really have a passion for it, although my grammatical errors and multiple uses of the periods.............. might keep me from publishing my novel :)
Anyway, I love to read the boys' Creative Writing stories. I don't know if the Speech teacher gives them a topic, or if they can just talk about whatever they want to. I do like the fact that the teacher writes out the story for them. Both boys are a bit weak with their writing skills.
OK, "Moose's" story is up top... He has a thing with fire extinguishers.. Many times when we go into a building he talks about how if there was a fire that water would come flooding the building. Also, last year we had a Tornado come through our area... Sadly, the Tornado thing is a fear now... At school, they practice how to position yourself... Basically, you crunch up into a ball, and put your hands over your head. He is so Cute when he does it :)
I think "Snake's" story is somewhat based on a true story... The picture is a bit frightening, but I think his story tells about what may have happened in his Pre-K class. Except, I don't think a woman was anywhere in the picture.. Maybe a couple of five year old boys/girls . Oh, wait a minute, the mad woman could have been the teacher... I would make a good detective :)
Enjoy, and I will keep you posted on the writings of my boys... Maybe one of them will get to publish their own novel one day :)

Before and After Pictures ("May Day Challenge")
Why I am taking the "May Day Weight Loss Challenge"
Any readers of this post that know me probably wonder why I haven't brought up this issue earlier. You see I have been on some kind of continual diet since about age thirteen. I found out about this challenge from a link on Lisa Whelchel's website (LOVE HER!!!). As far as I know, this challenge is open to anyone in the blogosphere (and beyond).
I think this challenge is mainly to encourage those who are trying to lose weight.. It is always nice to walk your personal journeys with others on the same path. I'm not sure this challenge will address the spiritual aspect of this issue, but this blog is dedicated to bringing Jesus into all areas of my life. So, as I journey along with many others trying to lose weight... I will be posting regularly about my spiritual journey to lose weight, and not focus as much on my physical journey.
You see... finally, in my 30's, I have realized that my being overweight is really a symptom of an inward problem. In the simplest terms, I am addicted to food... Food controls me, and not the other way around. My biggest problem is that I do not want to surrender my control of this area to God. I want to hold onto it...
Imagine a fist clenched tight... Well, at this point I think at least four of my fingers have been opened, but that darn old thumb still wants to hold onto this area of my life. Food has been my friend, my comfort, my joy.. doesn't that sound off? Food is not a Friend. Food is a substance that gives us energy to live.
The Lord has really opened my eyes on this Food Control issue, and I am so close to letting it go... I think that is why I signed up for this challenge.. not because the challenge itself, or any program of eating is going to fix my problem... I have walked long enough with God to realize "programs" don't work, but HE does.
I decided to take this challenge because then I will have some form of accountability. Weekly, I will have to go to the website (see button on sidebar) and chart my progress. More than that, many of my friends and family read this blog, so I am giving you all permission to ask me how I am doing.... More so, than asking me how much weight I have lost, I would love for you all to ask me, how I'm doing surrendering control of this area to the Lord :)
Don't get me wrong, I really do want to lose weight. I am not happy at the weight I am. I feel very sluggish, and I lack energy. I am also worried about what I'm doing to my body (inside and out).
Yes, I will be happy about the weight loss, but I know that greater happiness will come when I am not controlled by food any longer. I cannot fully say that I believe the statement above 100% at this point... I may be fooling myself at this point... Maybe, I am doing this for the main reason of losing weight. But I know, that if I let God in on this journey with me.. He will change my mind, heart and attitude.
This food addiction might be a battle I will fight my whole life, but I want God to fight it for me. I know through Him I can do all things.
OK, so expect weekly posts about my progress... I will try to post about things I do that really help me tackle this weight issue from a spiritual aspect.. Yes, I will have to change what I eat, and definitely exercise, but that will be secondary to the spiritual challenges I will face.
So I said it.. you can hold me accountable... If any of you want to journey along with me, please let me know... I would love to encourage you on your journey too.. The "May Day" challenge starts May 8th. Click on Button on the sidebar to get information.
***Above this post, you will see some pictures. Two years ago when I moved to Illinois, I lost 30 pounds. I went from a size 18 to a size 10 (I even fit in a size 8-had to say that :) I really thought I had learned how to give God control of this area, but it turned out that I was still in control, and sadly, without God in control, I eventually gained all my weight back. The picture with my friend was when I had lost the weight, and the picture with my husband was taken in December of 2006 after I gained the weight back. Hopefully, I will have other pictures to post in the coming months... ones where I am a bit lighter on my feet :)

Moose's Take on His Gold Medal Win

This is what "Moose" wrote in school the day after he won his gold medal at the Special Olympics. I know his handwriting is a little off, but for a kid that struggles with fine motor control... this is pretty good."Moose" and his brothers are very aware of what Gold, Silver, and Bronze mean.. Meaning if you didn't get a Gold, you were not in first place. All of my boys want that coveted first place position in all games/competitions. My husband and I, are working through this issue with all of them. There is a lot to be said about second, and third place... Even last place has its own value. Anyway, if you read "Moose's" story.. you will get a hint that he knows what the Gold Medal means... Basically, he got First place... Although, "Moose" is very literal.. so maybe he is just stating the plain old facts :) Enjoy a post from "Moose's" point of view...
Oh, I was not at Moose's competition ( I was teaching Sunday School)... so that is why he didn't write anything about mom clapping. I probably would have been crying a little too.
