Another chance to win a blog design...
In Church today...
We were in Church today and our pastor quoted a verse from Proverbs. My hubby has recently read through Proverbs, and thought he recognized the verse our pastor quoted. He went searching and nudged me to look that he had already underlined the verse. So while he was in Proverbs he started looking at other verses that he underlined. He nudged me again and showed me another verse that he had underlined... one about a quarrelsome wife and how it is better to live on the roof... I smiled, he smiled... A few seconds later, he gave me the elbow again to show me another underlined verse... this one was once again about a quarrelsome wife being like a dripping faucet. I think I said something like, "Hey you aren't suppose to underline those verses" (I know we shouldn't be talking in Church, but I assure you this all happened very quickly). This scene looks bad for my hubby, but he quickly redeemed himself. The last nudge he gave me was to show me what he wrote at the end of Proverbs... Proverbs 31 to be exact. On the last page of Proverbs he wrote something like...remember to praise God daily because he has me as his wife, and then I saw at the beginning of the chapter he had drawn an arrow and then wrote my name... I guess being the Proverbs 31 wife to my hubby trumps him underlining the "quarrelsome wife" verses :)
I must say that many times in our marriage I was that quarrelsome wife, and a lot more... I also assure you that we both were smiling when my hubby pointed at those verses... I think we can now look back and at times laugh at ourselves, and how we used to be. Although I love that Hubby thinks of me as the Proverbs 31 woman, I know that am so far from that title, but at the same time I would not label myself the quarrelsome wife anymore. Now that's some growth:)
Blessings to all the Proverbs 31 women out there :)

"I Am" Online Study

1. It was stated in the Lesson that God has made you "once, twice, three times a lady." Where are you in this progression? Obviously we have all been physically born, but are you 'twice a lady'? Have you been born again spiritually? This may be a private matter you'd like to discuss confidentially. If so, email me. If you have already received this gift, write a brief prayer of thanksgiving or testimony. YES!!!!
2. Are you three times a lady? Has God given you a stirring deep within your Spirit to be a 'deliverer'? Do you have a desire or are you already meeting a need in the life of the church, a particular ministry (such as jail ministry, food ministry, etc.) or perhaps individuals who share common issues? God is definitely stirring my soul, but I think my biggest desire is to get to know Him (or at least it should be). I have been doing things for God (with selfish motives many times) all my Christian life... I wanted to do big things for God, but what I am learning now is to get to know Him, really know Him, and I believe He will direct me in how to use my desires for Him...not the way I want, but how He wants me too (Grammar Police-Did I use the right too??? :)
3. Do you ever get tired of waiting for that opportunity to do something
4. What do you consider 'worthwhile ministry'? Are you like me and sometimes find yourself mistakenly thinking it has to be Big to be Important? Yes, I think my answers above show that... Sadly, for much of my young Christian life I wanted to do the Big things so I could get the recognition. I am slowing learning that ministry can be anything... from the biggest act to the tiniest gesture of love.
5. Have you ever taken a spiritual gifts test? If yes, what are yours? If no, here's a good one from Ephesians 4 Ministry. Will you take it and come back with a response? Knowing some of you like I already do, I can almost pick out what your gift is before you say it. I can't wait to see if I'm right! Yes, encouragement, and shepherding are a couple of my gifts...

A page from our journal...
Well, today I found the journal in the front seat of my car. So far we have only 5 entries... not so good, but it is quality not quanity, right? I had the idea to share today's entry from my hubby with the blogging world. I asked his permission if I could share today's love letter, and my hubby quickly gave his permission.
Make me a promise...if you read the love note, you must read what comes after the note as well... Today's sharing has a purpose.
Journal entry number 5 written by my hubby...
Hi Hon! 9-27-07
Well, at the rate we're going writing notes in this, we may be able to pass it on to one of the kids in our 70's and still not have it filled :) I'm joking of course, as I find it more special when we write as we feel moved, not out of obligation. This business trip seemed to take an eternity! I cannot wait to get home and see you! Trips like these are good as they help to remind me just how much I love, cherish, and adore you. I think the neatest revelation I had on this trip is to realize how great a friend you are to me. I really missed our "dish time" together and connecting... ("Dish Time" is kind of like "Couch Time" for any of the "Growing Kids God's Way people-we just don't sit on a couch, we do the dishes together) the phone just wasn't the same! I'm really looking forward to our trip in a month. I love getting alone time with you...even if it is in an airplane with you falling asleep! (ME AGAIN-I hate flying..so sleeping is a good way to get through a flight) Thank you for being not only a wonderful wife, but such a great friend. I missed you more than you'll ever know on this trip, and I can't wait to see you in 8 hours. I love you...
(I can't get the italicize or bold to go off)
Why did I ask you to make sure to keep reading? Well, because this journal entry is a tribute to the Lord. If not for the Lord, my hubby and I would probably have been divorced a long time ago. If not divorced, we would be in a bad marriage to say the least. For the first 7 years of our marriage (although not all bad) we just co-existed. We didn't know that our marriage could be where it is today. God took two selfish, messed up people, and made us one.
The change happened when we both started seeking the Lord as individuals. I was so busy asking God to change my hubby, that I never looked at all the changes I needed to make. Once God showed me that I needed to work on me, I didn't even have time to think about what my hubby needed to change. Honestly, I was the only person I could change anyway... I couldn't make my husband change... My husband learned the same lesson.
Don't get me wrong, we do not have a perfect marriage...far from it... some days we revisit past failures and take up some old bad habits (that normally stems from a disconnect with the Lord in our individual relationship), but I can say that we do not stay there to long. Praise the Lord!!!
Wherever you are in your marriage...let me encourage you today!!! God can make a wonderful marriage even more wonderful...He can make a good marriage wonderful, and He can take a getting ready for Divorce Court marriage and save it quicker than you can blink your eye. God will show up on our behalf!!!
Seek Him, repent from old sinful habits if you need to (I SURE DID), and watch Him fight for you and your marriage. HE IS SO WONDERFUL!!!!
Thank you Jesus, without you I would be a mess, and so would my marriage.
Sweet Hubby, thank you for your love letter... You have turned into a Godly man right before my very eyes. I love that we are friends too!!! To Know Him (you know my real name :)

Thankful Thursday

Things have been kind of quiet on my blog (because of the job), but I have lots of ideas for some fun posts in the future.
First, I am thankful today for my wonderful in-laws. I have a wonderful relationship with my hubby's mom and dad, and I love them so much. They are my second mom and dad. As I type, my mother-in-law is watching "Flywheel" in the other room...she is actually waiting for me to come watch it with her (I have seen that movie like 5 times). She has come to stay a couple of nights with me (Hubby has been on a business trip for 3 days), so that I don't have to call into work on Thursday and Friday...my kids don't have school tomorrow, but I do. My in-laws are some of the most giving and generous people I know... I am blessed to have them in my life :)
Can I give a SHOUT OUT for Women's Ministry. I love WM!!! I am in my third week of Beth Moore's Tabernacle Study. I am being blown away weekly. Last week's lesson and video session was used by God to teach me a huge lesson. I need to get to my ma in the other room, but I will just say the word, MANNA... I will try to do a post this week about what God showed me through Beth's study in regards to the Israelites and the daily provision of manna to them by God. IT IS HUGE TO ME!!!
Blessings to you all today....love ya!!!!

Thankful Thursday

To those of you that are linking to me from the Sting my Heart blog, I apologize. I had written a post about what I was thankful for (it is something the Lord is showing me), but minutes after I posted it realized that I need to work through this situation with the Lord a bit more before I really talk about it. So, I will say that I am thankful that you can change your mind and make a better decision when you need to... Blessings...
Update... I see that a few of the Thankful Thursday ladies have left me a sweet comment... I do want to add that the original post was more about the Lord showing me my sin in one area... I wrote the post (kind of like a confession) and then right after writing something happened that made me realize I was not totally repentant in that area. Just wanted to add that...
HEY FWEND.... Can you post in my comment section what the Lord showed you about repentance? I loved it (I think it was you)... Ask me if you don't know what I am talking about. I think it would fit my situation above. Love ya...
That Stinks...
Some may not find any amusement in Snake's response, but I have to laugh. Why you ask???? Because my little Snake has come such a long way. Snake use to blow up with volcanic like temper tantrums. As Snake got older we(hubby too) taught him to express himself with words. It took a very long time, but little by little Snake started using words to express his anger and frustration. I think that is why I got tickled with his response yesterday. Please feel free to share funny statements that your children have said in my comment section.
Blessings!!!

Do you like the title of this book?
I was thumbing through the pages, and came across a new book. The title caught my eye, and made me think...(anything that makes me think is good :) The title is, "Stop Acting Like a Christian, Just Be One", written by Christine Caine. The statement below the book says..."Discover how allowing God to change us from the core of our being gives us freedom to stop trying to act like a Christian and to actively be a Christian, allowing the Holy Spirit to do His work."
Wow, that statement is pretty bold, and at one time in my life I would have been a person that needed to hear those words. Sometimes the Christian walk for me is a tightrope... Before I know it I can fall to the side of "acting" like a Christian, and not just "being"one. However, the difference now is that I am open to hear the Spirit remind me that I am "acting". Thank you Jesus!!!!
Speaking of Family Christian Stores... this week, up until September 22nd the store is having a sale on DVD's. The DVD's are $7.97 (Awesome Deal, these DVD's are normally around the $20 dollar range). I have purchased several DVD's from FCS. I am trying to build a collection of Christian movies that my family and I can watch, and I also can show the DVD's to my Small Group.
I am suggesting two DVD's that you may want to purchase for your own collection. The first one is "The Perfect Stranger" (this DVD is based on a book). This movie is awesome. This movie actually addresses many of the questions that people ask about Jesus and God. I think the answers that are given are good ones, and biblically based. Check it out for yourself.
I also purchased a movie titled, "Unidentified". Rich Christiano (I think I spelled his name wrong) is the film maker, and he has made many Christian Films over the past years. I have watched many of his movies, and they are good. This movie was WONDERFUL! This movie shows a possible/probable explanation about UFOs from a Christian point of view. No matter if you agree with their explanation of UFOs or not, the movie is still wonderful because it depicts how it feels to be a Christian in a non Christian environment. I love how the message of Jesus is so strong through the movie. This movie is definitely worth seeing!!!
If you watch any of these movies, please drop me a line and let me know what you thought of the movies.
OK, I need to get off the computer and fix up some dinner for my kiddies (Hubby is at a business meeting).
Blessings (I say that a lot :)
Time Travel Tuesday

Today's Time Travel is all about a special birthday that you can remember... I wanted to choose my sweet 16, but it will be a little bit of a hassle to find the pictures that go with it. So, instead I will tell about a birthday celebration I planned for my Fwend.
She is about 3 years younger than me, and she is normally the youngest in our group of friends that we hang out with. She reminded us of that fact often... I think she had a little bit of fun rubbing it in (she will comment and let you know if that is true). So I told her that one day she would get her payback... Her 30th was approaching, and I got together with a few of our friends to plan a little celebration for her. My friend (in the pink) and I picked out the boas and the sparking hat for her to wear the night of the party.
We didn't tell her any of the details of the night. We had planned to go to several of her favorite restaurants that night and order her favorite things (I think we only ended up at two). We showed up at her house and gave her the hat and boa to wear, and she put them on with no questions asked. The world would know she was turning 30... However, it didn't bother her one bit. We all had fun dressing up and celebrating my Fwend's birthday.
I had my other two friends write a list of 10 things they loved about my Fwend (I am saying my... but we are all friends), and I also wrote a list. That night at one of the restaurants we read the lists aloud, and my Fwend had to guess which friend said what... She did pretty well. I think that was the best thing about the night for her.
She later had others write a list for me when I was getting ready to move from Florida. Those lists are so precious to me. A side note... take time to express how you feel about your friends to them... IT HAS A HUGE IMPACT :)
Well, I was little rushed in writing this post... I hope I made sense. Blessings to you!!!

Terminator...
Wow, this will be my third post today. I am so busy with my new job, that I don't have time to do much posting during the week. This week Terminator thought it would be a great idea to take a marker and color his teeth black. I of course disagree, but couldn't help myself with wanting to take a picture before I washed his mouth out. Thank goodness it was a washable marker :)
Deeper Still
You will have noticed by now this post contains pictures that were taken with a digital camera that is about to die... I would not generally post pictures that look this bad, but I want you to experience a little bit of what my Fwend and I got to experience. I have some pictures that I took with my regular camera... I will scan them, and post them later.
I want to so share everything that I felt God was speaking to me through this conference, but I want to let it soak in, and start living it out first :)
I have to say that Kay Arthur was so lovely... She KNOWS the Bible, and her message was power packed with Scripture. She had broken her foot and was in a wheelchair. The wheelchair did not stop her one bit!!! She zoomed around that stage like lightning, bringing us the message God had laid on her heart.
Beth Moore is one of the most humble people I have ever seen. She is beautiful on the inside and out. She has external beauty that the world will notice, but the beauty that shines from her Spirit is breathtaking. I have come across several people that possess this kind of beauty... It is extraordinary, and cannot be manufactured by man. Oh, may my face shine with the beauty from our Lord.
OK, LOVE PRISCILLA SHIRER. This is the first time I have seen her speak. Oh, the anointing that is on her life. I bought one of her Bible Studies while I was at the conference, and I cannot wait to get started.
If you want to see a picture of the LPM Siestas (Bloggy Siestas) that met up at the conference... Click on the LPM blog, and scroll down until you see the Deeper Still post. You will find my Fwend and I on the front row (I so wanted to be in the back). You can also click on Connorcolesmom on my sidebar... She did about five posts on the Deeper Still conference (with details on the messages). Her pictures are great... She was on the first row, I so wish my Fwend and I were sitting with her.
Well, I will end this post here, and may post some of those better pictures at a later date.
Blessings!!!
Check this out...

Thankful Thursday

First of all, I am thankful that my Fwend and I had the most awesome time together this past weekend. She is safe in Florida now. The Deeper Still conference was so good... God was and is still speaking (I promise to do some posts about the conference soon... hopefully I won't forget everything I wanted to talk about :)...
I am thankful that my hubby is so self sacrificing. He drove about 5 extra hours for me this past week(airport transportation for my Fwend). He already commutes to work and drives about 900 miles a week. Thank you honey!!! Maybe one day I will learn how to drive myself (I have some issues with driving long distances... I will save that for another post).
I am thankful for my new job, although I am totally exhausted. I hope this exhaustion will go away once I am use to my new schedule. My job has helped me to NOT waste time...
I am thankful for Moose's disposition. Moose is High Functioning Autistic, but he is probably the happiest boy I know. You can't help but want to smile when you are around him.
I am happy and thankful because I feel like I am in the process of going deeper with God. I am falling more in love with Him each day.
OK, I better go to bed because I need to be awake for my 3 boys, and then a 3 year old Pre-K class :)
Blessings on Thankful Thursday!!!

Discussion Questions:
What is your initial response when anyone suggests you are beautiful? Well, it always makes me feel good, but normally I say that I am not...
Do you find you engage in a lot of negative 'self-talk'? How much of your thought life does this form of thinking consume? A lot is an understatement!!! Especially, when it comes to my weight. The sad thing is that even at my smallest I could still find flaws in myself. I do use the term, I Can't too much.
What is the most radical transformation you've witnessed in an individual after they were born again? It's okay to tell about your own! I have seen many people that have been radically transformed, and all of them do exude this beauty that is unexplainable... their faces have a softness to them... I do see that inner glow. I love that!!
The imagery of being a City Girl has absolutely changed the way I perceive my worth before God. Does it yours? Will you receive this truth and let it boost your righteous confidence? This is something that will have to set with me for awhile, but I sure do like this idea. I think we need to have this perspective... What God says about us is truly what is important.... I am working on believing that.

Time Travel Tuesday
Today's Travel is all about your first job... My first official job was at Wendy's. I basically picked Wendy's because my best buddy got a job there. I will just go over the highlights (the ones that I can remember) of my job.-To those of you that know me it would be no surprise that my main responsibility at Wendy's was to work the register. My boss made good use of my gift of gab... I suppose if I was talking to the customers about what they wanted to eat, then I could not talk to my fellow coworkers. Oh, how I just wanted to work at the station where you make the sandwiches. When you worked at the register you could not move around very much.
- I also didn't realize that I liked to dip my french fries in mayo... It sounds kind of gross, but many people (me included) would take a french fry from the fry bin, and then dip it into the mayo (don't worry, no double dipping). I definitely put a little weight on when I worked at Wendy's.
-Do you remember the Super Bar? That started up when I worked at Wendy's. It was highly popular for a very long time.
-I was a closer. My least favorite position as a closer was to wash the dishes. Basically, you would be soaked from head to toe by the end of your shift. There is nothing like smelling like a drenched grease pit. I hated smelling myself when I would drive home from work.
- My pay was somewhere around the 3 to 4 dollar range. I think back then I was very happy with that rate of pay.
Well, I would give more information, but the clock is telling me that it is 8 am, and I have to finish getting ready for work (that sounds so weird to me still). I think every person should work at a Fast Food Restaurant in his/her lifetime. It is a great first job.
Stay tuned, as I will be writing several posts this week about the Deeper Still conference... That is if I don't forget all the things I want to say :)
Blessings to you...

A Quick Response to my Fwend's Post
If you read the post from my Fwend (the one before this one) you would know that she said some great things about me... She was right about me not agreeing with many of her statements, but I wanted to let you know that whatever she sees in me (in the area of marriage and parenting) is a work of the Lord. I was a mess in both of those categories for a very long time. On most days I struggle my way through the maze of marriage, and I jog a very slow pace in the marathon of parenting. So what my Fwend saw yesterday is all because of God working through me!!! On a bad day (in my flesh) I would try to take credit for these changes in me, but I know better.
Also, what my Fwend failed to mention was that she has been one of the main examples to me of what a good wife and mother means... I have learned so much from her!!! If I ever wrote a book, I would have to list her name more times than the word "the"... She is Godly woman, a loving and respectful wife, and an awesome spiritual influence on her children. I think of that the verse about her children calling her Blessed... They will one day (if they don't already), I'm sure of it!!!
Well, I gotta go, even though I don't want to.
Blessings to you all!! I will give you the details about Deeper Still next week.

A Treasured Friend
I am writing this post (I being Toknowhim's friend @ Cookefamilyjourney), to brag on my friend a little. She does not know I hacked into her blog (Is it really hacking if I am on HER computer and I just signed in and her password was all set up?) I thought this would be a great opportunity to share with those who know her well, what a great friend she is. See, she would never tell these great things about herself (not that she would really believe them to be true anyway) on her OWN blog, so I will tell you them.
First of all, I'd like to ask why is it that when I am at home, I absolutely HATE to clean the bathroom, but yet for my friend, while she was at work, I am happily (no joyously) cleaning her bathroom. Maybe because I see how much effort she puts into her husband and children and ministry, and I just want to bless her by helping her in any way I can. This girl has been one of the greatest blessings God has given to me and I think a friendship like this is rare ~ it shouldn't be. For us, we kind of went through a process together of learning to be authentic Christians, and not wearing a mask, wanting others to think of us more highly than we really were. (A journey we will continue to travel until we are taken home to heaven). We realize the heavy burden that leaves for us to perform. God brought us together at a perfect time in each of our walks. She challenges me in my walk on a daily basis ~ really asking me the tough questions ~ questions you have to pray about before you can answer. What rich, Spiritual conversation we have.
One of the greatest blessings of this friendship is that we can share ANYTHING with each other and know we will not judge one another. Her grace for me is unending ~ and I have had to apologize a couple of times for things I have done and she is so gracious to forgive. I have learned so much from her.
This morning I woke up hearing her precious boys ask, "Mom, where is Mrs. Cooke?" I love them! They make me smile. But while my friend answered, "She is sleeping", I lie awake hearing her prepare herself (with a hectic schedule) in perfect grace and love. Often times my friend will share all her struggles and all the things that keep her from knowing God more intimately. But I want to tell of the ways He must be so proud of her ~ things she does not even realize she does so well. I have only spent just a few hours with her and I am already challenged by her ~ and even without her words ~ just by watching her live. She is so patient with her husband and kids (she would disagree ~ but I have observed). She prepares herself for her day with plenty of time to not stress over being late or yelling at her boys in the stress of it all like I can so easily get caught doing. All the while, she made sure to spend time with me before she put her head on the pillow and before she left for work this morning ~ all with such a graciousness about her.
My friend, I want you to know what a blessing you are to me! I truly cherish your friendship. You are a gift from God, a gift I do not deserve, a gift that daily reminds me of His grace .
Proverbs 17:17 says, "A friend loves at all times......."
Thank you for being such a gracious friend!
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 says,
"Two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their work:
If one falls down,
his friend can help him up.
But pity the man who falls
and has no one to help him up!"
Thank you for walking along side me in this journey. Thank you for being there for me to pick me up every time I fall!
Proverbs 27:17 says,
"As iron sharpens iron,
so one man sharpens another.
Thank you for challenging me in my faith ~ you make me a better person!
~Blessings to you, my treasured fwend!

Thankful Thursday

Oh (draw that Oh out), my life has become so busy now that school has started for my children, and I started teaching. That is why I am posting my Thankful Thursday post on a Wed... I am not sure I would get around to it tomorrow.
First of all, I am so thankful for my new job (Pre-K teacher). I have two days under my belt, and my 3 hour day seems like it last a full 8 hours :) I just know God is going to do something in me through this season, because I already see if I don't have Him to guide me through this season, I will be in a big mess.
Second, I am very, very thankful that my Best Fwend is on her way (as I type) to come stay with me until Sunday. My Fwend lives in Florida, and since my move she has come to visit me 4 times. Now that is a true friend...
This brings me to the third thing I am thankful for... My Fwend and I get to go to Nashville this weekend to attend a Women's Conference called "Deeper Still"... with Kay Arthur Priscilla Shirer, and my favorite Bible Study teacher, Beth Moore.. WOO-HOO!! My Fwend and I should also be able to meet up with some of the ladies from the blogging community. That should be awesome!!!
Blessings to you all... TKH
